ATLACE project members contributed with three talks at the XIV version of the Portuguese Polar Science Conference, which was held at the University of Algarve, Faro, organized by the Center of Marine Sciences (CCMAR) between November 18 and 19, 2022. The three presentations by ATLACE members, part of the atmospheric science session, were entitled: “February 2022 heatwave at the Antarctic Peninsula: subtropical moisture sources, atmospheric river and foehn” by Irina Gorodetskaya, “Precipitation over Southern Ocean: vertical structure analysis and model evaluation of two snowfall events around Mertz glacier” by Diogo Luis, and “Vertical structure of precipitation and clouds during summer atmospheric rivers at the Antarctic Peninsula” by Claudio Durán-Alarcón.

The conference also included the participation of keynote speakers from different countries, including Portugal: Arja Rautio who spoke about the Finnish polar research and the One-health initiative; Agnieszka Kruszewska presented the future first-class Polish Antarctic research station, which is under construction at the Arctowski base (King George Island), while Krzysztof Otto presented the Polish infrastructure for research in the Arctic; LiangBiao Chen showed evidence of mechanisms of glacier-driven adaptive radiation in Antarctic icefish; and Catarina Magalhães talked about the spatial distribution and biogeochemical drivers of nitrogen cycle genes in an Antarctic desert.
